Piano Tuning Course - Beginner

- 1:1 lessons
- Number of Lessons: 10
- Duration: 1 hour and 15 minutes
- Tuition: $4200 (original price $5000).
- Includes: A set of basic piano tuning tools.
- Target: Aged 18 or above who are interested in learning piano tuning or aspire to become piano tuners.
- Two people attending the same class will each receive a 10% discount on tuition.
Course Content:
Theory: Sound production principles; overtones and their corresponding intervals; principles of twelve-tone equal temperament, fourths, fifths, and octaves. Tuning: unison in the middle register; octaves in the middle register; tuning absolute pitch via apps. Aural Training: Focus on listening to different levels of overtones; application of overtones in unison tuning; application of overtones in octave tuning. Piano Structure: opening and closing the piano; names of piano parts. Other: Introduction to the job of a piano tuner; tuning work; piano history; key points for evaluating used pianos. Learning Objectives:
- Duties and ethics of a piano tuner
- Basic tuning techniques – accuracy and stability
- Auditory skills: musical perception, listening to different levels of overtones
- Evaluating octave accuracy using different intervals
- Piano tuning
- Principles and importance of electronic tuning equipment
- Piano construction and materials. Learning Steps: After completing 10 lessons, students will undergo a simple assessment by the instructor. Students who fail will continue to the beginner course. Those who pass can advance to the intermediate course. At each level of assessment, students will also need to demonstrate their tuning skills using tools. Practice: Students can rent pianos from our center for practice; please inquire with staff about rental fees.
- Students can also practice tuning their own pianos at home.

Piano Tuning Course - Intermediate

Individual Instruction
- Sessions: 10 sessions
- Duration: 1 hour 15 minutes per session
- Tuition Fee: Discounted price $4400 (Original price $5200)
- Target: Students who have completed our center's Piano Tuning Course – Beginner level.
- Students attending in pairs (i.e., both students attending at the same time) will receive a 10% discount per student.
Course Content:
- Building upon the beginner level, this course incorporates advanced training:
- Theory: Advanced ear training;
- Tuning: Unison in the high and low registers;
- Octaves in the high and low registers; Pitch accuracy training through ear training;
- Focused listening to different levels of overtones; Application of overtones in unison tuning;
- Application of overtones in octave tuning; Handling abnormal situations encountered during tuning;
- Piano Structure: Minor repairs of piano parts;
- Other: Tuning work practice; Sharing of instructor's work experience. Learning Objectives:
- Advanced tuning techniques – accuracy and stability
- Auditory skills: Musical perception, listening to different levels of overtones
- Learning about piano construction and materials.
After completing 10 sessions, the instructor will conduct a simple assessment of the student in the 10th session.
If the student fails, they will continue to the intermediate level course. Those who pass can advance to the advanced course. At each level, students will also need to demonstrate their tuning skills using tools.
Practice: Students can rent pianos at the center for practice; please inquire with staff about rental fees. Students can also practice tuning their own pianos at home.

Piano Tuning Course - Advanced

- Target: Students who have completed our intermediate piano tuning course.
- Students attending in pairs (i.e., both students attending at the same time) will receive a 10% discount per student.
Course Content:
- Building upon the intermediate course, this course provides further professional training to prepare students for piano tuning.
- Theory: Advanced ear training;
- Tuning: Intensive training in unison in all positions; Overall piano tuning assessment;
- Piano Structure: Minor repairs of piano parts;
- Other: Tuning job opportunities; Sharing of instructor's work experience. Learning Objectives:
- Advanced tuning techniques – accuracy and stability
- Auditory skills: Musical perception, listening to different levels of overtones.
After completing 10 sessions, the instructor will conduct a simple assessment on the 10th session.
Students who fail will continue to the advanced course.
Successful applicants will graduate and apply for student membership in the International Professional Musical Instrument Repair Association.
Practice: Students can rent pianos from our center for practice. Rental fees can be inquired with staff. Students can also practice and tune their own pianos at home.
